Kitchen Plans

The kitchen and bathrooms are probably my most agonised over rooms. Everything else you can repaint, change the lights, add furniture afterwards but these rooms need to be planned right first time! So it was great to get our kitchen and cabinetry plans back today and see the dimensions and how everything looks together rather than just in my head.

Our budget didn’t quite stretch to everything I had visualised for the kitchen, I had to abandon the shelving I wanted on the front of the island but I’m still happy with everythig and I can balance out all the black cabinetry on the island with some wooden bar stools.

All up our kitchen upgrade spend was $16,150 which covered black polyurethane lower cabinetry, Laminex Riven upper cabinetry plus pantry doors, deluxe Caesarstone, one waterfall edge on the island, soft close drawers and doors, 2 extra sets of pot drawers, light boxes for lighting under top cabinets, hidden rangehood, custom appliance cupboard with roller door and countertop inside, microwave space provision on island, undermount sinks in Butlers Pantry and on the island, concealed double bin and smoked mirror backsplashes.

Upgraded black granite kitchen sinks and matte black kitchen taps have added up to another $1,665 on our colours variation but I feel like they will be worth the extra expense to finish it all off properly.

Our laundry isn’t all that big so by the time there is space for the washer and dryer under the counter and a sink, our broom closet is almost comically skinny but it will hide the mop and broom so I can’t complain. We plan to put some floating shelves in ourselves instead of upper cabinetry at a later stage. We still managed to spend $4,015 for a deluxe Caesarstone countertop and Laminex Riven cabinetry. This is mainly because nothing is included in the laundry rather than just upgrade costs.

Finally all our vanities for the bathrooms which are pretty standard fare. We “upgraded” them so the cupboard doors were the full height of the cabinet and the ones with drawers have 3 drawers instead of 2. Dream big hey! Here we spent $1,450, with the majority being an upgrade to deluxe Caesarstone counters, then Laminex Riven cabinetry and the extra drawers.
